Affordable Housing

  • Sponsor of funding the City Homebuyer Assistance Program helping dozens of local families purchase their first home in Key West with their down payment.

  • City projects include 1) 103 units at College Road Garden View apartments to be completed by end of 2022; 2) 110 units at the 3.2-acre development of affordable housing at Truman Waterfront, and 3) Development of 74 units at Poinciana Housing.

  • City Strategic Plan - inclusion of affordable housing as the highest
    priority for the City.

  • Hiring the City Affordable Housing Coordinator.

  • Sigsbee and Military Housing – Advocacy for Navy Base to redevelop Sigsbee and other military housing.

Affordable Housing Continued…

  • Tenants at City Marina at Garrison Bight – Assistance and advocacy with tenants in the new lease drafting process during 2019. Successful implementation of a new lease on behalf of our city marina residents. Houseboat residents are part of our community and important affordable
    housing.

  • Sponsored Restriction that all new development in the city to be
    dedicated to affordable housing

  • Sponsor of city efforts to enforce affordable rents for all city deed
    restricted properties

  • Rental assistance funds provided to members of our community via the
    City of Key West and the United Way during the Covid pandemic.

  • Sponsor of a resolution directing that city funding for affordable
    housing priority for land authority funds.

Water Quality Monitoring

  • Sponsor and advocate for implementation and inclusion of water
    quality monitoring in the Key West ordinances in conjunction with the
    College of the Florida Keys.

 

Home Rule

  • Sponsor of E-Bike ordinance providing City regulations for e-bikes
    and golf carts.

  • Advocate for home rule for regulations related to transient vacation
    rentals and sponsor or new ordinance.

  • City properties restricted from using single-use plastic utensils and cups.

  • City ordinance prohibiting plastic straws

Community Parks and Activities for Children/Families

  • Renovation of Cozumel Park including the splash pad.

  • Development of Truman Waterfront Park

  • Creation of the Parks and Recreation Board for the City of Key West.

  • Sponsor of Resolution to support funding of the Police Athletic Gym
    and program.

  • Sponsor of Resolution to fund facility for the Boys and Girls new
    Clubhouse at Bayview Park.

  • Advocate for funding the Idle Hands Youth Program.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Solar Energy inclusion in all City Capital Projects per 2019 Resolution 19-238 – requiring evaluation and recommendations for all future city capital projects to include solar energy.

  • Sunscreen regulations in the City of Key West

  • Sponsor of 2021 new Pump Out policy resolution requiring liveaboards
    in the anchorage, and nearshore waters to show proof of pumping out sewage.

  • Water Quality Monitoring in Key West nearshore waters - sponsor of the ordinance.

 

VETERANS AND MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS

  • Support for local veterans' organizations throughout the year.

  • Review of the City-owned army cemetery on White Street in Key West

ANIMALS

  • Sponsor with SPCA of the Pet Mill Ordinance eliminating pet adoptions
    in the City from pet mills.

  • Funding from the City for the SPCA Building on Stock Island.
